3 Reasons Your Ductless AC System Leaks Water
Your ductless AC system has mechanisms in place to remove any condensate it generates as a by-product of its ordinary operations. If the system starts leaking water, this indicates that something is wrong. Since ductless AC water leaks can prove quite damaging to your Springfield, IL, home, we’d like to inform you why they happen.
Dirty Filters
If too much debris gathers on your system’s filters, it can create a favorable situation for the formation of large amounts of condensate. Dirty filters might prevent enough air from passing over the system’s evaporator coils. Consequently, the coils might freeze, which might cause them to leak after the system enters defrost mode and melts the ice.
Flowing air may also transfer some of the dirt on the filters and deposit it on the coils, which, can cause the coils to freeze and possibly leak. To avoid these issues, you must clean or replace your filters frequently and schedule maintenance services at least once or preferably twice a year.
Cracks in the Drain Pan
Ordinarily, your mini-split system should send the condensate that it produces into a drain pan. Unfortunately, if the pan cracks for any reason, water can leak onto your floor.
Debris in the Drain Line
Once the water is in your system’s drain pan, condensate should flow down a drain line. However, if any debris clogs that line, the water may bubble back up or simply overflow in the drain pan.
The sooner you take action to stop your ductless mini-split system from leaking water, the better it will be for your Springfield, IL, home. Of course, by patching up any underlying damage to your system, you’ll also increase its ability to keep you comfortable.
