4 Tips to Help Landscape Around Your AC System in Rochester, IL
Your air conditioner is an essential appliance when it comes to keeping your home comfortable and energy efficient. However, many Rochester, IL, homeowners want to do something to cover up the large metal outdoor unit sitting in their yard. Here are four tips to keep in mind when landscaping around your AC system:
Provide Some Shade
Your outdoor air conditioning unit contains the system’s condenser and compressor. Put it in a shady area to make it easier for the system to make cool air before pushing it into your home.
Consider adding some shrubbery around the unit or even planting a small tree near it to give it some shade. This reduces the strain on the system and can even impact your indoor air quality.
Don’t Get Too Close
When putting shrubbery or other plants around your outdoor unit, don’t get too close. Typically, you should leave at least 3 feet between the sides of the unit and any landscaping. Also, make sure that you leave at least 5 feet of clearance between the top of your outdoor AC unit and any tree limbs or other objects.
Choose the Right Plants
When deciding which plants you want to place around your outdoor unit, choose ones that don’t shed seeds or other debris. You don’t want to deal with plant debris getting into the vents.
Plan Ahead for Landscaping
In addition to choosing the right types of plants to place around your outdoor AC unit, choose stone borders or trellises that you can easily move. Whether you’re scheduling AC repair or routine maintenance, you want to make it easy for your service technician to get to the unit.
Landscaping around your outdoor air conditioning unit not only makes your property more visually appealing but also impacts the effectiveness and efficiency of your system.
